US Awasthi Named IIT BHU Alumnus of the Century

In a glittering ceremony held recently at the auditorium of BHU in Varanasi, IFFC MD, US Awasthi was given the “IIT BHU Alumnus of the Century” award. Dr US Awasthi was bestowed the award for his contributions to the cooperative movement in India, US Awasthi was instrumental in making IFFCO the largest cooperative in the world.  Due to a pre-booked overseas event in Jordan, Dr US Awasthi was unable to personally collect the award and IFFCO Director, Mr Singh, collected the award and expressed his gratitude.

“Today, In a ceremony at @IITBHU_Varanasi My award for “IIT BHU Alumnus of the Century” conferred by the fraternity of @IITBHU_Varanasi was received by Sh. AK Singh, Director #IFFCO & an IIT-BHU alumnus by Sh. @manojsinhabjpji, Cabinet minister & also BHU Alumnus.”



Dr US Awasthi’s Achievements Mentioned


The award consisted of a citation signed by Nitin Malhotra, Chairman of the organising committee, Global Alumni Meet 2019. The citation read how Dr US Awasthi has played an important role in setting up a number of fertilizer projects in the country. The citation also mentions the important role played Dr US Awasthi in effecting IFFCO’s forays into other sectors.


Dr U S Awasthi who maintains contact through his social media handles, graduated from IIT BHU in the sixties. He has a deep rooted concern for Indian agriculture and this is evident from the special agricultural projects that he has visualized in the area of fertilizers and pesticides.


BHU Celebrates its Centenary Year


The premier institute founded in 1919 is celebrating its centenary year. The event has attracted the institute’s alumni from across the globe. A part of this celebration was a IIT BHU Alumni Association Centenary Walk at Rajpath, New Delhi, which was well received by several prominent students, from both past and present, of the University participating.


Some of the notable alumni that participated in the walk included Krishan Kumar Modi, Chairman, Modi Group; Krishan Kant, former Vice-President of India; Ashok Singhal, former President, Vishva Hindu Parishad; and Manoj Sinha, Minister of State, Railways.
